Twitch video highlights allow you to save a particular moment from a live stream for later viewing. This can be useful if you’re watching a long broadcast and want to revisit certain scenes, or if you’re a creator and want to keep a record of your best moments for editing and sharing.
If you’re watching a stream, hover over the video to see an icon with three dots and a “Clip” option. Selecting this will create a clip of the video that you can then use to share on social media, or download for future reference. Twitch also has its own video editor called Video Producer that you can access by clicking the profile image in the top right corner of the viewer window and selecting Video Producer from the menu.
You can also Download Twitch video highlights within Video Producer to save them permanently to your Highlights section. This will allow you to access them in the future for YouTube compilations or other editing purposes. Highlights are stored for 14 days if you’re a free Twitch account, or 60 days if you’re a Prime, Turbo or Partner subscriber.
If you’d like to download a highlighted video, you can do so with 4K Video Downloader, which has an inbuilt browser and search function to make it easy to find and access your highlights. Once the download has finished, you can use the file as you wish although be mindful of copyright and don’t use footage in your own videos without permission.
In order to download a video highlight, you will need to have a Twitch VOD link. You can either paste the link into the VOD browser, or you can click on the Highlight button and then choose Download. VODs can take a while to download, so be patient!
Alternatively, you can use the Twitch Leecher app which has a Windows GUI and CLI version. It can be downloaded from GitHub here.
The app is quite simple to use, with you just entering a channel name and date into the app, or you can enter a specific VOD link or video ID. The application will then start to parse the link and download it to your computer. If you’re a video editor, this can be handy as it allows you to download a high quality HD version of the video which you can then use for editing.
VEED is a free to use website that lets you download video clips from any stream. This is perfect for creating high-quality gaming content for your YouTube channel or other online platforms, or just for keeping a record of your best moments. The video quality is also great, and unlike some other websites that claim to be able to download twitch clips, VEED does not compress the footage or convert it to mp3 files which can sometimes lead to a loss of quality. So give it a try and see what you think!
